To CREATE
Snippets from my piece in the May issue of the Intentional Muse
The act of creation is personal and ever-changing.
“Perfection” often limits us from creating. And most of the time, we're the ones creating those rules.
I approach creation the same way I approach my human-centered design work: with intention, experimentation, and an understanding that process matters as much as outcome.
I used to think I needed a clear headspace to create. Yet, whenever I’m doing UX design, I get my design solutionsn come from the most chaotic moments the process and unexpected places.
One day, mentally planning an outfit for girls’ night, I had a realization: when I’m not inspired, I have nothing to wear. But when am I inspired? Creating an outfit becomes the easiest, most joyful part of my day.
That got me thinking: what does it actually mean to be inspired? And how does it affect the act of creating?
I‘ve been trying to be present with my thoughts and ideas, discovering what inspires me, what drains me, what makes me feel like myself ever since.
Inspiration can come from everywhere, it is best when it comes from the least expected places. The hard part is catching it and transforming it into something tangible.
Here’s how this process transfors in my closet:
My process changes depending on the day. My closet is a magical place: some days it offers endless options, some days it transforms into a desert.
When I was talking to Adi Lynton, a textile designer and florist based in New York City, I realized we approach our work the same way. Adi doesn’t just arrange flowers; she curates emotion, color, texture, and mood into bouquets that tell stories. Just like I do when I get dressed.
Our conversation sparked an idea of creating outfits inspired by floral bouquets.
Adi shared her beautiful images of the bouquets and I divided into my freshly cleaned closet.
